Ann Bailey was born in Evanston, Illinois and moved south after graduating from college. There she attended a community college adult education class on basic calligraphy. During that course, she remembers the moment when the idea in her head ‘clicked’ with what her hand was able to produce. At that moment her love of lettering and bringing words to life was born.
Ann has been creating calligraphic art and collage work for over twenty years. She has studied in Belgium, France, as well as studied at national workshops with world-renowned calligraphic artists John Stevens, Ewan Clayton, and Denis Brown. Her style and skills have grown over the years and she is currently creating new works for national shows and Ann Art Gallery.
Ann’s work features a unique combination of calligraphy and paper collage. She is known for bringing words to life with colorful design via a variety of mediums including inks, watercolor, crayon, pens and papers from across the globe. She focuses on positive, thought-provoking words that illuminate life with color and design. Here is how she describes her work:
“Art is not just something to look at, it is something that inspires people to learn, think, and then act differently. Watching people read my work, think about what is written and then ponder the ideas and beauty my art conveys is a true blessing. Being able to take words and bring them to life via calligraphy and paper arts is an amazing gift. My hope is that my art gives people inspiration, causes them to think, and encourages them to move forward in their lives in a positive manner.”
Ann also specializes in creating unique gifts – wedding, anniversary, graduation, birth announcements or special celebrations – on a commissioned basis. Her work is available in original framed and unframed formats.
