Ink on Scrap Pastel Paper – Words: Jay Z

Success is an objective term. What one person thinks makes someone a success may not apply to the person sitting next to them at a movie. For some people money, power, prestige, even expensive things means success. For others success is more focused around people, service, relationships and the having enough. And still others define their own success by the legacy they leave and they sacrifice everything to leave a mark on this globe.

We all have our own definition of success, maybe today is a good day to reevaluate that meaning. If COVID-19 has given us anything it is a different perspective on time, money, and activities. We have been given the chance to be still, think and evaluate all we have, all we think we want, and what we REALLY need to live our own successful life. We have been given the gift of perspective on ourselves and our world, all we have to do is take the time to open the gift and put it to good sue.

Let me encourage you to sit down with yourself and think about who you are right now and what you want to be in the future. Sounds very high school guidance counselor-ish and yet it is a great practice. We cannot be successful if we do not know what it means to us to be successful. We cannot focus our efforts, energy, resources and thoughts on success if we do not take time to lay out our own parameters. Jay Z is right, to be successful we first have to be successful at being ourselves. To do that we need to know ourselves and be willing to grow to be better than we were yesterday.

Take time today or this week to write down how you define success. You may be surprised at how far along you are in that definition and the things you want to work on next.
