Change can be hard for so many reasons. What can make it seem unbearable is the waiting. You know what you want, when you want it, and the universe does not always cooperate. Sometimes you wait due to timing, and sometimes you wait for an answer. Either way, the waiting can seem unending.

I consider myself a patient person most of the time. I get that everything is not always on my timeframe, time zone, or within my control. I understand that patience is a virtue that only grows with exercise, which means you have to be patient to learn patience. And by exercising patience you grow stronger and more attune to being patient. It is like a never ending circle that draws us in and forces us to grow up.

I had a friend who was waiting for medical test results. It was a scary time and one that forced her to face all sorts of scenarios about herself, her work, her family, and her priorities. No one wants to have to hear bad news from the Doctor, so being prepared is imperative. Time and waiting can force us to prepare for the best and the worst. Then the decision comes and what we thought we were prepared to hear throws us for a loop. Or the news is so much better than we had prepared to hear that we feel our heart literally jump for joy at the unexpected news.  The good, the bad, and the unguarded news forces us to face things we might not want to face. Asking for things to change means we will deal with what comes our way no matter what. And waiting for things to change means we have to be willing to face the side effects, impacts, and unexpected treasures that come with change.

Waiting allows us time to see things not simply as they are but as we want them to become. Waiting gives us the gift of space and clarity. Space to clean up and prepare for what is coming. Clarity around what we really want. Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it. When the waiting ends, the adventure and work begins. There will come a time when you have to get off your chair and move forward. Time will tell you when that moment arrives – good or bad, beautiful or ugly – change and waiting brings it all our way.

What are you waiting for? Do you even know? Are you willing to change enough to handle what you think you want? Or is it a pipe dream that has not shaken you silly yet? There will come a time when your waiting will end…so prepare now hold on!
