We went out amongst the madness this weekend. Here you see one of the shopping hostages we passed when going into a store. I don’t know if this was his way of coping with all the running around, or if he just couldn’t take one more store. Either way he was enjoying his alone time and nap. When we came out of the store he was still there in his peaceful state of bliss.

In life we all have to do things we don’t always want to do. When that happens to me I all too often procrastinate in order to avoid what I don’t want or know how to do. Sometimes the things we don’t want to do will in turn please others…so we do them anyway. Sometimes the things we don’t want to do are a necessary part of life – brushing our teeth, washing our clothes, cleaning where we live – so we do them anyway. Sometimes we have to do things in order to keep our lives moving forward – paying bills, working, sleeping – so we do them anyway.

All that being said, you may have to do things today that you don’t want to do, and these things may keep life going…so you do them anyway. The real stuff of life is not about holidays or special meals, vacations or once in a lifetime events. The real stuff of life is doing what you have to do to keep your world functioning. Real life requires fun, fantastic adventures, and all too often the mundane. There are more normal, boring days than there are national holidays. So when the mundane of life calls you to attention, do what it asks and do it with joy. The sweetness of the fantastic days are made better and more meaningful when the mundane is taken care of.

So three cheers for the shopping hostages who go to the mall when it is the last thing they want…they do it anyway.
