What is it about fire and cooking marshmallows over an open flame? Here you see our conclusion to Thanksgiving in June. We introduced our guests to S’mores and Shutem’ Uppers. Most people know S’mores – graham crackers, chocolate and roasted marshmallows. Most people have not heard of Shuten’ Uppers – saltine crackers, Carmel, and roasted marshmallow…both are completely and unmatched yumminess. 

Some people love the burnt taste of a marshmallow that has caught on fire. Others take great care to perfectly toast the marshmallow without any hint of char. And still others eat the marshmallow raw and then gobble the crackers and candy separately. I’m not sure what it says about you once you identify the way in which you eat your marshmallows, I do know that it is ALWAYS a topic of conversation when this process begins. 

There is something relaxing and peaceful about sitting around a fire, chatting about nothing and cooking food or marshmallows. It brings us back to simple and more basic times…which reminds us to unwind and enjoy. Too many of us spend our days, nights, weekend, spare time trying to accomplish something. When what we really need is time to do nothing…accomplish only the basics, like cooking food or roasting puffed sugar for a sweet treat. I thunk fire reminds us that warmth, companionship and food are true essentials of life. Whether you want it burnt, lightly toasted or raw is only the way in which you serve up your essentials. 

Take time to unwind, cook food outdoors and fins out about your essentials. What are the things that are important to you to make your world run smoothly. If you don’t know, spend some time sitting in front of a fire and figure it out.
