A friend and I had a creative play date today. She brought some paints and we played with gel printing. I had only done it one other time, so I was a real novice with the whole process. Here you see a sampling of the great supplies she shared. I loved the color options and the endless possibilities they provide.

When we planned this, I knew we would be “playing” with tools I had never used. It was both fun and nerve racking at the same time. When you know you don’t know, and are willing to do it wrong…then why not give it a try. She has a real great eye for putting colors together, and has an abundance of great printing equipment. It was really amazing. I had to get over not being in my element. Some work turned out well, some was pretty sad. Either way I learned a lot.

When was the last time you put yourself in a position where you were not comfortable with anything you were doing? It is a strange feeling, yet a great way to get your creative juices going. Using tools that are new and different than anything you know about forces you to think differently. Today you need to use a tool or supply that you have never seen before. Borrow it, buy it on sale, or even attend a class where you will learn how to use it. Give yourself the freedom to play, be free from fear, and create good and bad work. Just play…for no other reason than it’s fun!
