Wouldn’t it be nice if life gave you clear directional signs about your next step? Like this one I encountered during a partciularly nasty construction zone, it clearly let me know that it was time to merge. This one flashed brightly and let everyone around know what was going on…
But life does not give us flashing directional signs. There are signs in life, they just don’t CLEARLY point us in the safe direction. A sign from life could be a failed relationship or a lost job, or a thought that keeps nagging in your head while you slowly fall asleep. A sign could be someone finally telling you the truth, or someone telling you to go away. As sign could be a bright idea, or instict, or financial windfall or loss…or a sign could be the constant frustrating moments you pass while driving to a job that bores you to tears. A sign could be the same message in a different way…the same end result, just from different sources.
Life gives us signs that often feel like puzzles to solve and questions to answer, and we have to figure it out. As I look back on my life, I see when pieces fit together perfectly and when I had to piece things together on my own. Some of the best lessons in my life have been from horrible failures…running off the road and getting myself back on track. Other successes happened when I chose not to give up. I often wish there were clear road signs for things, and yet rarely did that ever happen.
Today I encourage you to take time to reflect on the clear and subtle road signs in your own life. Change is coming – whether you like it or not. You can embrace it, or you can run from it. Only you can make the decisions that will change things…the real question is where do you want to go? Where do you want to end up, and how do you plan to get there? Who do you want to go with you? And how will you know when you arrive? Take quiet time today to read the signs and chart your course…only YOU can truly take your life in the right direction
